Session Descriptions

All sessions require a reservation due to seating limitations.

Online registration for Summer Institute 2010 will close at noon on Monday, June 14, due to catering deadlines. If you have registered for a session and need to cancel the session, please revisit the session on the Schedule of Events & Session Registration page to unenroll yourself. The registration desk will be located in the Media Gallery of the Bert Bornblum Library. Registration will continue for sessions that have space available.

This year the schedule will be divided into Tracks: the COE, CFD, Wellness, and Academic Tracks.

  • COE Track - Sessions focus on technology used in the classroom and in the online environment.
  • CFD Track - Sessions focus on best practices for teaching and learning in the classroom and in curriculum best practices.
  • Wellness Track - Sessions will allow participants to learn how to enjoy fitness and wellness.
  • Academic Support Track - Sessions focus on engaging students in positive ways to decrease behaviors of concern and how to deal with those behaviors when they do occur.

Daily Start Times

Sessions will be held Thursday, June 17 and Friday, June 18, 2010

  • Continental Breakfast and registration each day will be from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
  • Daily Sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m.
  • Lunch will be served from 11:50 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Lunch is for Summer Institute attendees only. In order to adequately prepare, reservations will be required for lunch. If you have special dietary needs, please notify Kim Perry ( ). Please register for lunch:

  • Thursday, June 17
    • Grilled chicken on charcoal grill (with light bbq sauce other half plain))
    • Seasonal fresh grilled vegetables (squash, zucchini, red onions, red & yellow peppers)
    • Rice pilaf
    • Lightly buttered rolls
    • Hawaiian citrus pineapple punch
  • Friday, June 18
    • Caesar salads with grilled chicken
    • Fresh fruit pineapple kabob tree
    • Small croissants
    • Citrus pineapple punch

The Summer Institute does not have a "conference hotel." However, the following information is for those who may be coming from out-of-town. Please visit the web site for each hotel to locate one that meets your needs. Each of the hotels listed here have been contacted for availability and rates. (The Center of Emphasis is not recommending any hotel but providing this list for informational purposes.)

The Macon Cove Campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College is located on Macon Cove just off of Interstate 40 and Sycamore View road. People may enjoy staying in this area due to the proximity of a regional mall, Wolfchase Galleria, and the abundance of restaurants within walking distance.
