The Custom Campus tab is back! It now shows a student's Learning Support Competency Requirements.
A student's Learning Support status can be viewed in AdvisorTrac in the Custom Campus sub-tab from the student's General information tab (in image below).
The Custom Campus sub-tab will now display the following fields.
The image below displays an enlarged view of the Custom Campus sub-tab.
There are a variety of codes in those fields. The table below details what those codes mean.
LS Competency Codes
|No Test Score on File||The student has either not taken the Compass/ ACT or we have not received their ACT score yet|
Each Learning Support(LS) or LEAP course has at one competency. The next table lists how many each course has.
|# of Competencies|
|LEAP Math - LPM 0700||1|
|Learning Support Math||5|
|LEAP Writing - LPW 0700||1|
|Learning Support Writing||2|
|LEAP Reading - LPR 0700||1|
|Learning Support Reading||2|
The Custom campus tab will display the student's status for each competency. For the Leap classes, it is fairly straightforward. The competency translates to the whether the student needs the class (R- Required), does not need the class (NR - Not Required), has completed the class (C- Completed) etc.
There are two (2) competencies in Learning Support Reading and Writing. A student that has R for both competencies needs to register for the 0810 course (either ENGL 0810 or READ 0810). A student may have a C for the first competency and an R for the second as in the example below for Learning Support Writing. In that case, the student will need to take ENGL 0820 next.
The situation will also occur that a student has a C for both competencies, as in the example below (Case 1) for Learning Support Reading. In this situation, the student is ready for college level coursework in regards to and Learning Support Reading requirements (i.e. ENGL 1010 once he or she finishes the second Learning Support Writing competency). Be aware that a student may have a C for both competencies in Reading or Writing and have only taken the 0810 course. That is one of the strengths of the new learning support model. A student can finish both competencies in one course in one semester!
There are five (5) competencies for Learning Support Math. A student may finish them all (C- Complete) in one semester in MATH 0810. In that situation, the student is ready to move on to College level Math coursework and College level courses that list Math 0820 as a pre-requisite.
If a student shows three (3), four (4) or all five (5) Learning Support Math competencies as either R- Required or IP - In Progress, then the student needs to enroll in MATH 0810.
If a student shows 3 or 4 competencies as complete (C), the student should register for MATH 0820 next. Case 1 (above) is a scenario that fits this description. It is important to note that a student can complete these competencies in a non-sequential manner. For example, the student in Case 1 has completed competencies one (1), two (2), and four (4). The remaining two LS Math competencies show as IP- In progress. This means that the student is currently enrolled in either MATH 0810 or MATH 0820.
The codes are updated from Desire2Learn to Banner and then to AdvisorTrac as faculty teaching the course update a student's completion of a competency. That typically takes 1-2 days for the back end data processing.
