Role 1: Effective Teaching and Student Learning

BASE Expectation: Remaining current in the respective discipline/specialization

Documentation: Documentation that demonstrates personal advancement in the discipline
Explanation: This documentation will be provided by faculty member, such as: 1) List of articles, journals, or books in the field that have been read, 2) materials from workshops or conferences in the field that were attended, 3) list of current texts that have been reviewed, details regarding visits to related area industries or businesses 4) description of any networking with colleagues and professional organizations that was carried out during the current year, 5) online documentation of any workshops attended through the Center for Faculty Development


BASE Expectation: Documenting effective teaching methodologies

Documentation: Discussion between department chair and faculty member regarding personal teaching methods used and the effectiveness of those methods, faculty development plan, student comments on the evaluation of faculty forms
Explanation: This evidence will be provided by the faculty member.


BASE Expectation: Maintaining classroom standards of instruction consistent with departmental (and College) policies

Documentation: Discussion between department chair and faculty member regarding any departmental policies that apply to the instructor's courses and the instructor's compliance with those policies (i.e. a departmental policy for mathematics that within certain math classes students use graphing calculators)
Explanation: The assumption should be made that the instructor meets this standard unless the department chair has knowledge to the contrary.


BASE Expectation: Demonstrating an ability to organize/present subject matter in a logical and meaningful way

Documentation: Suggested documentation to be provided by faculty member: Course materials including course syllabi, handouts, exams/evaluation instruments, or other instructional materials
Explanation: This documentation will be provided by faculty member and reviewed by the department chair.


BASE Expectation: Providing students with current syllabi and other pertinent course materials and adhering to policies therein

Documentation: Up-to-date syllabi approved by the Department Chair

BASE Expectation: Meeting classes at the appointed time and for the scheduled amount of time

BASE Expectation: Grading students fairly and consistently

Documentation: Positive feedback in this area from the student evaluation of faculty survey results

BASE Expectation: Identifying course objectives for each course taught

Documentation: Syllabi or other course documents listing up-to-date course objectives

ADDITIONAL Expectation: Developing and applying effective instructional techniques/strategies in existing courses including online, split, computer assisted, and service learning courses

Documentation: Narrative describing effective instructional strategies utilized in the non-traditional courses taught and the success of the use of these strategies.

Role 2: Advising

BASE Expectation: Maintaining comprehensive advising records

Documentation: Instructor should provide examples of advising records kept and discuss individual process of record keeping with the department chair.
