That’s My Story, and I’m Sticking to It: Equity and Student Success

Dr. Murray will describe how the college he led tackled the obstacles of economic and racial inequity faced by students in one of the most economically disadvantaged and racially divided regions in the country.  It is the story of a community college not only willing to engage in difficult conversations but to act upon the lessons learned from those conversations.  The story of Phillips Community College will be a familiar story to most community colleges across the nation. The college’s move from a focus on access to a focus on equity in both access and success illustrates the common challenges colleges face and why it is important for students and communities serve that they persist.
