Introduction to OER – “Welcome to Our World”
The presenter will detail the history and movement towards Open Education Resources. The introduction will include an orientation and introduction to the OER experience.
Philosophy and Pedagogy of Online Teaching - “Can you See What I See”
This section of the workshop will discuss approaches to teaching online. Participants will share their personal goals and approaches to “educating online”.
What is the vision of the educator?
Particular attention will be direct toward identifying and establishing measurable course objectives. The goal of this section is for participants to have considered and be able to articulate their philosophy (perspective) regarding online education. The conclusion of the section will encourage participants to have established course objectives before moving to the next section of the workshop.
Course Development - “Does this come with Instructions”?
This section of the workshop will focus on course mapping and design. What is required? Participants will engage and consider strategies for designing and outlining an online course. Participants are encouraged to complete this section with an “outline design” for a course or training. Specific concepts: course design, sequencing, pacing, and cognitive load
Curation and Creation - “All this for free”
This section will explore sources and strategies for identifying and selecting appropriate “OER Content”. Participants will actively engage in the curation and creation of Course content. Specific concepts: fair-use, copyright, public use, creative commons, accessibility, remix, reuse,
Installation – “Are We There Yet?” or “Putting it all together”.
In this last segment, participants will attempt to “fill the outline” or in some cases load a complete module or course with selected OER content. Time permitting… Participants will share their “completed work” on their module or course.
